Overview of the Computational Biochemistry and Biophysics
Project
The Project, born in 1991 and directed by Dr.
Giorgina Corongiu, is strongly linked to the
Computational Chemistry Project, directed by Prof. Enrico Clementi.
The collaboration between the two
Projects has its roots in the group created and directed by Clementi at
IBM Kingston (NY).
The expertise of the CBB Project
in the various fields of biochemistry, and in the
study of the relationship between the structure of macromolecules (such as
DNA, polypeptides, proteins, enzymes, etc.) and their biological and
pharmaceutical activity is strong. In this field, we stress our researchers
know-how in deriving from first principles, interactions and forces (force
field) from the subunits which make up macromolecules and in carrying out
simulations of biomolecules in vacuo, in solution and in crystalline structure.
