The accurate calculation of wave functions
-
One of the most complex subjects in physics is the
exact description of the interactions between three or
more bodies (many-body problem). This is true both for systems
of large dimensions, like planetary sistems studied in
astrophysics, and for systems of electrons in atoms and
molecules.
-
Interest in this field is not merely academic: the
results obtained from accurate calculations on small
systems are needed to calibrate the approximate methodologies
used in solving more complex problems.
